Terms of Use

Last updated 9 September 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Picko, however you reach it: a guide to a venue's menu opened by scanning a code, an experience embedded in a venue's own app or website, the Picko website, the Picko mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By accessing or using Picko, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how information is handled when you use Picko.

1About Picko

Picko is a dining guidance and communication service designed to help people make more informed dining decisions.

Picko is most often reached as a guide to a venue's own menu, opened by scanning a code at the venue. It is also offered as a website and as a mobile app. Which features are available to you depends on the surface you are using.

Depending on how you reach Picko, it may help you:

  • Understand unfamiliar dishes.
  • Find places and menus around you.
  • Discover menu items based on your preferences.
  • Compare unfamiliar foods with familiar ones.
  • Ask questions in your preferred language.
  • Communicate more easily with restaurant staff.

Picko provides information and recommendations to support your dining decisions.

Picko does not prepare, sell or serve food and is not responsible for restaurant operations, menu content or food preparation.

2Eligibility & Accounts

Picko is intended for a general audience and for users aged 13 and over. Picko is not directed to children under 13, and children under 13 should not use the Service.

If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian before using Picko.

Creating an account is optional, and a venue's menu guide can be used without one. If you create an account, you must provide an email address you control, keep sign-in codes to yourself, and use the account only for yourself. You can sign out or delete your account at any time from your Picko settings. Picko may suspend or close accounts that breach these Terms or abuse the Service.

3Artificial Intelligence

Some Picko features use artificial intelligence to generate recommendations, explanations, translations and communication assistance.

Although reasonable efforts are made to provide helpful and accurate information, AI-generated content may occasionally be incomplete, inaccurate or unsuitable for a particular situation.

Recommendations are intended to assist your decision-making and should not be treated as guarantees or professional advice. Picko should be used as a decision-support tool and not as the sole basis for deciding whether a food or drink is suitable for you.

Where something is important, you should always confirm it directly with the restaurant before ordering.

4Food Safety & Important Information

Picko is not:

  • a medical service;
  • a healthcare provider;
  • a nutrition service;
  • an allergy certification service; or
  • a substitute for professional advice.

Menus, ingredients, preparation methods, availability and certifications may change without notice and may differ between restaurants or even between outlets of the same restaurant.

If you have allergies, medical conditions, dietary restrictions, religious requirements or other important considerations, you should always confirm the relevant information directly with the restaurant before ordering or consuming any food or drink.

5Your Responsibilities

When using Picko, you agree to:

  • use the Service lawfully;
  • provide accurate information where appropriate;
  • exercise your own judgement;
  • verify important information directly with the restaurant;
  • avoid using the Service in any way that interferes with its operation or misuses its features.

You remain responsible for your own dining decisions.

6Acceptable Use

You may not:

  • use Picko for unlawful purposes;
  • interfere with or disrupt the Service;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service;
  • copy, scrape or systematically extract content from Picko without permission;
  • use the Service in a manner that could harm Picko, restaurants or other users.

7Community Contributions

Where a feature lets you submit content — such as a photo of a publicly displayed menu — you confirm that the content is publicly displayed or otherwise yours to share, and that it does not include personal information about other people.

Menu photos you submit are used to create your own private menu reading; they are not published to other users. You grant Picko the right to process submitted content to operate these features, and to use aggregate signals drawn from many independent menus — such as repeated printed ingredient warnings — to maintain and improve the general dish information the Service provides. Picko may decline, remove or correct information derived from submissions at any time.

8Where Picko's Information Comes From

Place listings — such as restaurant names, locations and categories — are compiled from third-party and open data sources, including open map data published by the Overture Maps Foundation, and may be incomplete or out of date.

Dish and menu information is created by Picko: authored with the assistance of artificial intelligence and reviewed, read from menus by the Picko team, or provided by restaurant partners. Menu photos submitted by users create private readings only and are not a public source.

General information about cuisines and dining customs describes what is typical, not what is true of any particular restaurant.

None of these sources makes Picko's information a guarantee; the disclaimers in these Terms apply to all of it.

9Venues & Business Services

Many Picko experiences are provided in partnership with venues and other organisations — for example, a menu guide reached by scanning a code at a restaurant, hotel or food court, or embedded in a venue's own app or website.

These Terms govern your own use of the Service wherever you reach it. The commercial relationship between Picko and a venue or organisation is governed by a separate written agreement between them, and where that agreement differs from these Terms, the agreement prevails for that relationship.

Venues receive only aggregated, non-identifying information about how their menu guide is used, as described in the Privacy Policy.

10Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, Picko, its software, branding, interface design and original content are owned by or licensed to Picko.

Restaurant names, logos, trademarks and menu content remain the property of their respective owners.

Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of any intellectual property to you.

11Availability, Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability

Picko is provided on an "as available" and "as is" basis.

While reasonable efforts are made to keep the Service accurate and available, Picko does not guarantee that:

  • information will always be complete or current;
  • recommendations will always be suitable;
  • translations will always be accurate;
  • the Service will always be uninterrupted or error-free.

Features may vary depending on the venue, deployment or version of the Service.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Picko shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from the use of the Service.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such limitation is prohibited by law.

12Language & Translations

Picko is offered in multiple languages. The English version of the Service's information and of these Terms is authoritative; translations are provided for convenience, and where a translation differs from the English version, the English version prevails.

Dish names are generally shown in their original or romanised form, with translations and pronunciation aids provided to help you understand and say them.

13Changes

Picko may update these Terms from time to time as the Service evolves.

The latest version will always be available within the Service.

Continued use of Picko after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14Contact

Questions regarding these Terms may be submitted through the Contact Picko form available within the Service or by email at hello@withpicko.com.

These Terms of Use apply to Picko wherever it is offered: menu guides provided through venues, the Picko website and the Picko app. As Picko introduces new features—including optional user accounts and additional services—these terms may be updated to reflect those changes.
